Midsommar rhubarb festival

After a visit to the Green City Market on Saturday morning, Paul and I leisurely fixed a breakfast fit for kings. We smothered our Swedish pancakes with some homemade rhubarb compote. Yum!

rhubarb compote with ginger and orange

1.25 C. sugar
1 T. orange zest
juice of 1/2 orange
1 T. minced fresh ginger
4 C. fresh rhubarb, chopped into 1/2-inch pieces
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Combine the sugar, zest, and juice in a heavy large saucepan over medium high heat. Stirring frequently, cook until it bubbles and begins to caramelize. Add the ginger, rhubarb, and vanilla, and cook at a simmer over medium for about 20 minutes, until the rhubarb is tender and beginning to fall apart.

Serve with Swedish pancakes, plain yogurt, vanilla ice cream... whatever floats your boat!

Some pretty jewelry just arrived on my doorstep from Lillyella's etsy shop (the photo credits are all hers).

I'm very pleased with my order! I love that she lets you specify what length of necklace you'd like.

Despite plenty of writing, editing, and summer activity,  I have been squeezing in some knit and crochet time. I finished this baby blanket, but I'm unhappy with how it emerged from the washing machine.
 pattern: basic granny square
hook: Clover Soft Touch H (5.00 mm)
colors: Lemon Berry
Little Boy Blue
Sun Shine
Wonder White

I usually skip the agitation cycle when I put things made with Cottontots in the washer. This time I tried it on the gentle cycle, which was a bad idea.  This is a shame, as I was planning to give the blanket as a gift, but it looks a little pilly and worn already! Boo...

I love rhubarb so much and I have had no success finding any or anyone to share:( That compote recipe sounds wonderful!

Those pancakes and compote look so good! We never get rhubarb here, and actually, I don't think I've eaten it?
Love your pretty necklaces -- so delicate and summery.
And what a shame about your blankie! It's so pretty -- guess it will make a nice soft nest for your kitties now? I've made a couple of baby gifts using cottontots - guess I won't do that again. I didn't realize it doesn't wash well.

That rhubarb compote sounds delicious. We really need to make an effort to get Tadpole up to Green City Market.

So sorry about the washing machine fail. Would a little bit of work with a sweater stone help? Maybe once the pills are gone it will look good enough to share.

Oh, curses about the washing machine's effect on the blanket! :(

Mmmm... rhubarb...

Yum! Thanks for the recipe! The necklaces are so pretty - I love jewelry but rarely wear anything besides earrings.

A rhubarb festival... I want one! Could you run one of those pill shavers over the blanket? They always work for me and are relatively quick.

Oh, my. Breakfast will remain an incomplete event until I've had that rhubarb compote.

Yum! I had some kind of pancake for lunch -- it was spectacular with plum sauce. Those necklaces are lovely, too! Sorry to hear about the blanket ... is there any way to save it?

Project Linus would be happy to take your baby blanket, a little pilly or no. I think it turned out lovely. Give it to a baby, not to the kitties, I say!

New jewelry is always nice. I have added it to my Esty favorites now.

And the rhubarb sounds interesting. I will have to see if I can hunt any down otherwise I will have to plant some so I can have some next year.

And some yarns do not hold up well in the washer sadly. Even though they are supposedly machine washable. Have you tried Encore for baby things? It holds up pretty well.
