the stashbusting curse strikes once again

Stashbusting projects generally don't turn out so well for me. OK, the finished projects themselves may be lovely, but more often that not I run out of yarn and then am wracked with guilt as I try to figure out what to do. Plus I don't want to spend much money to acquire more yarn to finish, as the whole point of the exercise was to knit from my stash.

In sum, stashbusting is stressful.

One more case in point:Another giant granny square, this time using all my Noro leftovers and odd skeins, mostly Kureyon and Cashmere Island. As you may have guessed, I've already run out of yarn at just 30" square.

What to do? Just crochet a big-a@% contrast border using nature's brown or oatmeal Fishermen's Wool? Buy more Noro? Anybody have any tips for a great source of discount Noro? Webs (which is where I usually get my closeout/discount Noro fix) doesn't have any right now.

Hmm. Reply to this to remind me to poke around in my closet to see if there's any Kureyon I want to unload fer cheap. :)

Why not go onto Ravelry in the ISO/Destash Yarn group and beg for scraps? Usually, if you tell your story (like your blog post did so nicely) people are willing to help. Set the project aside until you have enough to finish it. I know I have a skein of Kureyon around here I could give you... if only I could find it. If I do, I'll let you know!

Well...it is very pretty.

Do you have any use for a pillow? you could fold the four corners down to the center over a pillow form and have a neat meditation cushion?

Yarn should not cause stress! I think it would look lovely with a neutral, solid color border.

Little Knits often has good Noro deals! Although I think a solid-colored border in a complimentary or neutral color stash yarn would be lovely too :)

I really like your granny square!
I wish I had leftover Noro, because then I would send it to you! Not sure how you feel about this, but perhaps you could post on Ravelry to see if people are willing to send you their leftovers for free? I think I've read examples of that in the past.

deja vu... when I first saw your picture, I thought I was looking at my blog! I have been making a similar "stashghan" for about 3 years now.

I found that these squares are good to use as lap robes at a football game or just to use in the car on a long trip.

Congratulations on your stashbusting venture.

I am sure a contrast border in some kind of brown/beige would look lovely. If you decide to buy more Noro, you can check out littleknits.com, the usually have a lot of Noro for sale.

I have a Noro. No need to buy more. Email me.

I just had to order two more skeins of noro to finish the stashbusting sweater I was making for the ravelympics.

Blame the noro! :-)

Stashbusting is fun but you're right, the budget part of trying not to buy more yarn can be hard. Rav has a bunch of well-priced noro on some of the destashes or you could post an ISO. I just got lucky and picked up 5 balls for 4/ball with free shipping which I thought was a good deal. (I'm hoarding it for a large entrelac blanket)

You can leave it as is and gift it as a baby blanket. I've seen baby blankets 30" square

Oh no! That's super annoying. I wish I had a tip for some super-cheap noro ... but all I can offer is sympathy. At least it's pretty ...

I have a friend who picked up some Silk Garden for a song on Etsy ... apparently people destash there, too.

Webs had some the other day. I am surprised it went that fast. Have you tried Ebay? or Ravelry? What a great way to use stash. It looks beautiful

Why don't you make it a pillow? Make a solid color back and sew that baby together - voila! project done!

I think you should put in a basket so you can look at it and just wait till you have some more scraps. That way you can enjoy it and be inspired!
